4oz. Mint State Restoration with Basket

MSR works sweet to remove even the hardest encrustations from ancient coins and artifacts, and NRC is proud to add it to our catalogue of ancient coin-cleaning products.

Similar to our Gringott's Mixes, but in a ready-to-go premixed solution, rather than a powder. Easy to use, this 4oz bottle comes with a jewlery-style cleaning basket to help simplify your soaks without having your fingers come in contact with the solution and to keep your coins from touching.

MSR also works well for cleaning silver and silvered coins!

Not suggested for simple dirt-covered coins. Click 'images' to see the extra photos of our results. We were happy and you will be, too!

An outstanding product for cleaning hopelessly encrusted coins and more - if used carefully! I conducted several experiments to see how well MSR worked, and here's what I found: 1. MSR is very effective for cleaning those rock-hard, really nasty encrusted coins that other cleaning products barely touch. Just soak for a few hours (or overnight for the concerete-encrusted) and remove when the encrustation begins to break up. You might have to re-patinate when finished, but it sure beats endless scrubbing for minor or non-existent results. 2. This product, if applied with an eye-dropper or syringe and closely monitored, is excellent for spot cleaning stubbord dirt on small areas of a coin. (And it won't remove the patina if applied carefully!) 3. MSR is useful for cleaning silvered coins when scubbing will remove the wash. Just use a small amount and (soft) brush or toothpick lightly as soon as the dirt begins to loosen. The silvering will remain intact if used very carefully! This was an added bonus that I hadn't considered until deciding to apply MSR to some fragile silvered antonianus' that I'd been keeping on the shelf until a better option than soaking and scrubbing came along. While not a first option in most cases, MSR is quite effective for the applications stated above...

I experimented with both short and long term soaks. It was a huge help for both. A few from the short soak(10-45 minutes)needed only 10-15 minutes while others took a bit longer. I kept a pretty close eye on them due to the varied condition and metal composition of the coins I used. It did not harm the patina. I took 2 coins that were candidates for electrolysis and let them soak for about 10 hours or so(checking frequently). At the end of the day I gave them a good brushing, crust layers fell off. I stored them overnight in distilled water and put them back in the same solution in the morning. I repeated for 3 days adding a couple drops of distilled water each day to compensate for a little evaporation. It removed the patina, as I intended, and they need only minor touch ups with a dental pick and will be ready for retoning. This will definitely be in my tool kit from now on...

This product works well to loosen dirt without damaging the patina. It's a little pricey, but sure saved a lot of time...

I wish I bought a bigger bottle! The basket container is great for getting the coins in and out of the solution without wasting any. Most of my coins are pretty crusty and so need several over night soakings along with manual cleaning. It would probably work better on coins with less crud. But slow and steady wins the race. It would be nice if it was a little bit stronger for the hard to clean coins...
