Celtic Bronze Uncleaned Tetradrachms, Prancing Ponies!

Ave!

Celtic Bronze Uncleaned Tetradrachms

Æ/ each at ca. 25mm/9.9gm

Beginning about 300 BC, the Danubian Celtic tribes began to imitate the images of Philip and Alexander the Great coins (Zeus obverse and Horse reverse) but in their own and rather crude, by Greek standards, particular style. Many were struck/sand cast in silver while other were cast in copper alloy.

Before you begin cleaning these, NRC suggests that you Google images of such coins, as the obverse portraits are really strange to modern eyes or simply click the "images" tab for a lovely cleaned example from this same lot of issues.

How to clean them - Most are covered with soft dirt and DW soaks and common dental picks/scaple will work well. A few may be a bit more challenging but that's what we're here for. :-) We'll be happy to answer any cleaning questions that you may have.

Think outside your Roman cleaning box and enjoy adding these wonderful 2,400 year-old coins to your collection!

Remember, the price is per coin, not for all seen in the photo.
